These substitute courses cannot be double-counted to fulfill the required elective of 3 units of 4000 level language course.

[ii] Students who possess Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N2) qualification when admitted are required to take 18 units of courses from 3(a) and/or 3(b) above, with at least 12 units of Language Courses at 3000 or 4000 level, to substitute for the 4 relevant courses. These substitute courses cannot be double-counted to fulfill the required elective of 3 units of 4000 level language course.

[iii] Students who possess Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N1) qualification when admitted are required to take 18 units of courses from 3(a) and/or 3(b) above, with at least 9 units of Language Courses at 4000 level, to substitute for the 4 relevant courses. These substitute courses cannot be double-counted to fulfill the required elective of 3 units of 4000 level language course.

[iv] Native Japanese students are required to take 18 units of courses from 3(a) and/or 3(b) above, with or without any Language Courses, to substitute for the 4 relevant courses. If they choose to take Language Courses, they are allowed to take Language Courses at 4000 level only, subject to the approval of the course teacher. If they choose to take non-language courses, they should take at least 12 units of elective courses at 2000 or above level.

[b] Subject to Department’s approval, native speaker of Japanese can be exempted from the fulfillment of one JASP 4000 level language course, and take 3 units of JASP course as a substitution.

[c] LING1000 which counts towards the fulfillment of the requirements specified in 1 Faculty Package cannot be used for the fulfillment of the requirements specified in 3(a) Non-language Courses.

[d] These courses are only offered to students before their resident study in Japan.
