講者簡要
Dr. Kim Yeong-chei is a historian of the ancient world with particular interests in the agrarian and political history of the Roman Republic. Born in Seoul, she received her BA and MA in History Education from Seoul National University and MSt and DPhil (2017) in Ancient History from the University of Oxford. She subsequently spent two years in Rome as a Research Fellow at the British School at Rome funded by the Leverhulme Trust (2017-2019), held a research fellowship from the Pony Chung Foundation (2020-2021) and was a Research Professor and Instructor at Seoul National University (2021-2023). She has been a Jangwon Humanities Scholar of the Amorepacific Foundation since 2022. Her publication includes ‘Privatization of Ager in Africa from 123 to 63 B.C.’ (Classical Quarterly, 2023) and ‘Centuriated Luceria: a Latin colony and its territory’ (Papers of the British School at Rome, 2021). She is currently writing a book that examines Rome’s agrarian laws and their role in the outbreak of the full-scale revolt of Rome’s allies in Italy in 91 BC, known as the Social War.

2026年1月30日,粧源人文學者金英彩博士於香港中文大學發表題為「同盟者戰爭的起因:羅馬共和國的土地與政治」的講座。講座內容以其正在撰寫的專書研究為基礎,重新審視「同盟者戰爭」(Social War;公元前91–87年),並挑戰將其簡化為義大利同盟者單純爭取羅馬公民權的傳統說法。
金博士首先重構戰前義大利的政治格局,指出羅馬並非以單一統一國家的形式統治半島,而是透過複雜的同盟網絡進行支配。羅馬公民、拉丁人社群與各義大利同盟者 (socii) 在法律地位上層級分明。儘管同盟者在軍事擴張中扮演關鍵角色,並分享帝國繁榮的部分成果,他們卻被排除在核心政治權力之外。金博士認為,這種既依賴同盟者、又拒絕其政治平等的失衡體制,製造了深重的社會矛盾。
在此背景下,金博士主張,同盟者戰爭應被理解為一場逐漸轉化為追求自由與自主的反叛,而不只是爭取公民權的運動。雖然公民權確實曾是訴求之一,但在多次遭拒後,許多同盟者已意識到在羅馬體制內獲得真正平等幾乎不可能。戰時的圖像材料亦反映此種轉變,例如義大利鑄造的錢幣上出現公牛攻擊象徵羅馬的母狼圖案,顯示其對抗羅馬本身的決心。
金博士詮釋的核心在於土地問題。她強調羅馬「公有地」(ager publicus) 在政治衝突中的關鍵地位。大量土地在征服義大利過程中被沒收為公有,而自格拉古兄弟改革以來的一系列土地再分配政策,動搖了同盟者長期依據條約使用或佔有公有地的安排。公元前91年之前的數十年間,持續實施的土地政策加劇了土地持有者的不安,並深化其對政治從屬地位的自覺。
金博士最後指出,羅馬反覆進行公有地再分配,乃同盟者最系統性且傷害最深的處境來源。土地是經濟與社會生活的基礎,相關政策使半島上的不平等變得具體而普遍,最終對同盟者戰爭的爆發起了決定性作用。
