Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)

 


Overview

  • Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong.
  • Aims to attract the best and brightest students from across the globe to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong universities.
  • Provide a monthly stipend of HK$28,100 (approx. US$3,600) and a conference travel allowance of HK$14,000 (approx. US$1,800) per year during the normative study period for up to three years.
  • The HKPFS package at CUHK includes Tuition Fee Waiver, Lodging Award, and 1st Year Hostel Fee Waiver and Guaranteed On-campus Accommodation.

Application Procedures and Timeline

Step 1:
Submit an initial application to the RGC through their on-line application system and obtain a HKPFS reference number.
RGC Application deadline: 1 December 2024 at 12 noon (HKT)

Step 2:
Submit your full application through CUHK’s Online Application System for Postgraduate Programmes and quote the HKPFS reference number.
CUHK Application deadline: 1 December 2024 at 11:59 pm (HKT)

Step 3:
Submit the required supporting documents to the Division of History.

 

Assessment Criteria

In addition to the qualifications required for admission to the Graduate School and the Division, HKPFS applicants should have outstanding credentials in terms of

  • Academic excellence;
  • Research ability and potential;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Leadership abilities.
