Major Programme (2 Years Curriculum)

AApplicable to students admitted in 2024-2025

Major Programme Requirement (for Associate Degree or Higher Diploma holders admitted to senior-year places)


Students are required to complete a minimum of 57 units of courses as follows:

1) Faculty Package: 3 Units

    • HIST1000

2) Required Courses 6 Units

    • Capstone Courses: HIST4811, 4812

3) Elective Courses[a][b]: 48 Units

History Programme is divided into TWO main streams, choose one of the streams and complete the relevant 48 units of courses as follows:

History Stream

    1. Elective Courses[a]:

      Complete 48 units of HIST courses, with:

      1. At least 6 units from:
        HIST2002, 2005, 2006, 2007
      2. At least 9 units from:
        HIST2301, 2310, 2320, 2330, 2360, 2370, 2380, 2390, 2700, 3326, 3327, 3330, 3331, 3332, 3340, 3360, 3361, 3372, 3373, 3375, 3380, 3381, 3400, 3421, 3701, 4020, 4304, 4305, 4306, 4380, 4390, 4391, 4392, 4393, 4400, 4420, 4702, 4703

Public History Stream

    1. Required Course: HIST1700, 1701 

       

    2. Elective Courses[a]:

      Complete 42 units of HIST courses, with:

      1. At least 3 units from:
        HIST2002, 2005, 2006, 2007
      2. At least 12 units from:
        HIST2010, 2701, 3441, 3701, 4702, 4703, 4704
      3. At least 6 units from:
        HIST2500, 3103, 3404, 3406, 3505, 4142, 4500, 4502, 4600, 4700, 4701, 4910
      4. At least 9 units from:

Explanatory Notes:

1. HIST courses at 2000 and above level as well as those labeled as # will be included in the calculation of Major GPA for honours classification.

[a] Students may select up to 15 units (five courses) from ANTH2310#, 2340#, 2520#, 3430# and JASP1180, 3110# offered by the Department of Anthropology and Department of Japanese Studies as elective courses. Students taking the above ANTH and JASP courses in fulfilling the History Major requirement should indicate which course(s) is/are to be counted at their final term of attendance.
