Explanatory Notes:
1. HIST courses at 2000 and above level as well as those labeled as # will be included in the calculation of Major GPA for honours classification.
[a] Students who have prior knowledge of Japanese before admission may be exempted from taking JASP1470, 1480, 2470 and 2480. They should seek the advice of the Department of Japanese Studies to take substitute courses in accordance with their academic qualifications as follows:
[i] Students who possess Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N2) qualification when admitted are required to take 16 units of Elective Courses, with at least 12 units of Language Courses at 3000 or 4000 level, to substitute for the 4 relevant courses.
[ii] Students who possess Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N1) qualification when admitted are required to take 16 units of Elective Courses, with at least 9 units of Language Courses at 4000 level, to substitute for the 4 relevant courses.
[iii] Native Japanese students are required to take 16 units of Elective Courses, with or without any Language Courses, to substitute for the 4 relevant courses. If they choose to take Language Courses, they are allowed to take Language Courses at 4000 level only, subject to the approval of the course teacher.
[b] Subject to Department’s approval, native speaker of Japanese can be exempted from fulfillment of one JASP 4000 level language.
