I graduated with B.A. (History 1993), M.Phil. (History 1996), M.A. (Computer-aided Translation 2004) degrees from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, M.A. (Christian Studies (Biblical Hermeneutics) 2016) from China Graduate School of Theology, and D. Litt. (History and Culture 2001) from Kyoto University in Japan with the Japanese Government (Monbusho) Scholarship grants (1997-2001). Since 1993, I have been engaging in research on the history and culture of Sui-Tang China, during which the Chinese imperial model made its first great splash upon the shores of Japan, and subsequently an East Asian cultural sphere was born. Selected as the Harvard-Yenching Visiting Scholar in 2006-07, I conducted research projects on the metropolitan bureaucracy and administration in Tang-Song China and history of Christianity and history education in East Asia.

In recent years, I have been further researching the development of political and metropolitan systems in East Asia particularly China in the medieval and early modern period, and the histories of the Christian churches, theologists, Japanese sinology and colonial rules as well as international relations in modern East Asia. Therefore, I have been writing related publications and offering related courses and academic talks. This includes publishing an edited book, Integration and Differentiation among China, Japan and Korea (2017) and teaching the courses, “Introduction to Classical History Books”, “Historiography”, “Transformations in Tang-Song China”, “Imperial Capitals: Chang’an, Luoyang and Kaifeng (B.C. 202-A.D. 1130)”, “History of Japan”, “Introduction to Japanese Sinology”, “Christianity, Politics and Local Culture in East Asia (A.D. 635-Today)”, etc. As a board member of Light of Yung Shu Tau Christian Society, I am firmly committed to providing social services and pastoral care to the socially vulnerable groups in the local community.
