On 21 September 2024, Dr. CHUNG Yan Hon Michael from the Department of History, Emory University and Dr. WANG Yongxi from the Department of Chinese Literature, Hong Kong Chu Hai College, were invited to deliver lectures on their learning and research experiences to the students of Graduate Seminar on Historiography.
Dr. CHUNG shared with students his experiences of developing an interest and conducting research in the field of military history, presented methods of learning Manchu and utilizing databases to organize materials. Dr. WANG reviewed his learning experience and shared insights from his fieldwork in the Guanzhong Plain. He also provided suggestions to students on conducting fieldwork, searching inscriptions, collecting archival materials and writing theses.
During the Q&A session, the speakers responded to students’ questions about methods of understanding regional societies and skills of interpreting military archival materials. The lectures ended with a lively discussion.
Prof. HUANG Ko-Wu, Distinguished Research Fellow of Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, has been invited by the Department to serve as the 14th Chiu Chin Yin Visiting Scholar and give the following public lectures:
