In a review and rethinking of Huizhou studies, Prof. PUK Wing Kin pointed out that even with abundant documents, it is still a challenge for scholars of regional studies to build up comprehensive understandings of Ming-Qing China through observing a constructed, multi-layered and changing region. Current studies show that Huizhou shared some similarities with Southern China on the development of lineage and the business strategy of merchants during Ming-Qing period. Similar to other regional studies, lineage, local religion and taxes and the corvée system are key elements in Huizhou studies.
Dr. Teddy SO was invited by the MA Programme in Comparative and Public History (MACPH) and the Alumni Association of MA in Comparative and Public History (MACPHAA) to give a lecture to students of the Department and alumni of MACPH.
