CHEUNG Sui Wai

BA (CUHK), M.St., D.Phil. (Oxon)
Assistant Professor

My academic interest covers many fields, including the identity of the Manchus, Chinese traditional festivals and the lineage development in South China, etc. But since my graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1987, I have spent many years studying the market development in China from 1500 to 1800. The study enhanced my scope of knowledge in historical geography and silver economy. Now I focus my attention on the copper coinage, and hope the research enables me to depict a clearer picture of the operation of long-distance markets in late imperial China.
