2009年是中華人民共和國成立六十周年。作為當今世界僅有的，也是最大和建國時間最長的少數幾個共產黨國家之一，關於中華人民共和國歷史的研究已經受到越來越多的關注。儘管老牌共產黨國家蘇聯及其他衛星國先後瓦解，共產黨領導下的新中國也經歷了一次又一次重大挫折，但是它依舊相當穩固且愈益強大 。對於各種促使中共有效自我調適的原因，學者們已經並且還在進行深入的研討，但是，在今天已有的各種研討當中，我們似乎對新中國當年創建的基礎—一個既容易自我消耗卻又容易自我調適的制度與機制—的問題，還缺少應有的重視和比較系統的檢討。為此，我們邀請國際上在這方面確有研究的歷史學者召開一次學術研討會，對新中國創建的歷史，進行一次集中的討論。

2009 is the 60^th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.  As one of the biggest and surviving few communist countries in the world, the People’s Republic of China has become an important subject of the international studies and researches. Scholars have been investigating on the various self-regulating aspects of the regime.  But, we still lack systematic examinations of the process by which the Party-State system regulated and exhausted itself.  Therefore, we organize this international academic conference, gathering world-renowned historians in the field, to contribute their research results on the early years of the founding of the PRC.
