Principal Investigator:

Abstract of Research:
Many years of local archaeological research has proven that active interactions between Hong Kong and its neighbours already existed 7,000 years ago. It is frustrating, however, that the general public commonly lacks historical knowledge beyond Hong Kong’s colonial years.

This KTPF-funded project is an attempt to make our local ancient culture common knowledge for the general public, students, tourists and scholars from abroad. It is hoped that this transfer of knowledge would inspire interest in tracing Hong Kong’s historical roots. For the local people, reclaiming their history is an essential process in establishing and rethinking their own identity and relationship with China. For scholars abroad, the content of this project will be an invaluable academic resource. Led by Professor Tang Chung, this project would achieve these goals through school teacher workshops, public guest talks, museum exhibitions, a comprehensive website and free publications on Hong Kong’s ancient culture.
